Police have detained a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi for strangulating a minor boy to death over enmity with his elder brother and dumping his body in a thermocol box.

While checking CCTV clips from the nearby areas, especially those from Jaitpura's Weaver Market, Doshipura resident Shahid Jamal (20) was seen taking Abu Ismail along with him.

Police then detained Jamal and questioned him. During the preliminary investigation, he confessed that the deceased Abu Ismail was first abducted and then strangled to death.

Meanwhile, angry and inconsolable family members of the boy gheraoed the Chaukaghat police post and demanded strict action against the accused.

Police said weaver Mohammad Junaid, a resident of Doshipura, had two sons. The younger son, four-and-a-half-year-old Abu Ismail, had been missing since late Saturday evening.

Junaid said he had gone out to buy chips but did not return, adding that a missing report was also lodged with the Jaitpura police station.

DCP RS Gautam of Kashi Zone of Varanasi Police Commissionerate said during interrogation, Jamal said he used to visit the family of the deceased child a lot.

Jamal had taken the child to the grocery store and killed the child there and stuffed the body in a thermocol box. In the morning, he took the thermocol box and kept it near the garbage heap.
