The project — a shared vision between the Police Jury, the Vinton Harbor and Terminal District and the town of Vinton — is a 1.6-mile extension that ties into LA 108 approximately 0.6 miles east of I-10, forming a new connection to areas south of Vinton. It also creates a direct connection to I-10 for the Port of Vinton and associated businesses.

The extension features two, 12-foot-wide travel lanes with paved shoulders. The roadway was specifically designed as a heavy-haul road. The project extended water and sewer utilities along a portion of the route.

Also included is a direct connection to Amanda Drive, providing an alternate means of entering and exiting South Vinton Estates Subdivision, as well as improvements to the eastbound entrance ramp of Interstate 10 at Exit 8 to facilitate the movement of larger trucks going in and out of the Vinton Harbor and Terminal District.

“The completion of the Johnny Breaux Road Extension is a great accomplishment and a tremendous help to the Port of Vinton,” said District 12 Police Juror Judd Bares. “It is now a direct route to the port, which opens many possibilities for economic development. This project took years to complete and is an example of the vision of our staff and the Police Jury who saw the need for this extension.”
